Post-production
We
have gathered some insite, knowledge, tips & advice from some
of the best recording engineers in the business on each area of
the recording process. Here's what they have to say.
Randy
Burk--Stout Recording:
- What is mastering? Again, the band will need time
to listen to the final mixes. You may have to return to the studio
for a remix or two. Mastering is the final step in post production.
The mastering engineer listens to the final mix as a collection
of songs. They will make adjustments as needed according to the
relative volume and tonality from song to song.Traditional mastering
studios can master from any two-track format, analog or digital.
They can master from CD, CD24, 1/4" analog, 1/2" analog,
DAT, etc. They strive for continuity of sound,
clarity and optimized volume. Not all studios do mastering. It
tends to be a specialized field. It is the final step in the recording
process.
