Mixing
We
have gathered some insite, knowledge, tips & advice from some
of the best recording engineers in the business on each area of
the recording process. Here's what they have to say.
Randy
Burk--Stout Recording:
What is the mixdown? After you finish tracking,
you will need several days to listen to the rough mixes. Once
the band is happy with the recording, it's time for the final
mix. The mixdown is the producer's performance, but the band can
have creative input at any time. From the amount of thump on the
kick to the amount of Elvis slapback on the voice, any mix has
only four elements: Volume, panning, EQ and effects. Edits for
noise, clarity and continuity are usually done during the mix.
John
Jones--"Thumper"
Custom Drums: Don't
be afraid to try different ways that the engineer says that things
can be processed by adding & mixing loops. Be comfortable
with all the professional advice at your disposal & try to
be sensitive to what the rest of the band wants out of the song.
